Dr-Jim-photo-cover002I’m Dr Jim Byrne, and I’m in my twenty-third year in counselling and psychotherapy, during which time I have helped more than 1,000 individuals to get over their problems of anger, anxiety, depression, stress, self-confidence, couple conflict and attachment and relationship difficulties; plus career difficulties and transitions; academic study problems; and general problem solving difficulties.

Most of the people who consult me at the moment tend to have complex, multi-element problems which cannot be quickly or easily understood, explained or solved.  What is required is a detailed analysis of the situation – based on data collected via two or more questionnaires, and a face to face interview – followed by a good deal of reflection and solution-generation by me; which allows me to identify the knowledge- and skill-learning needs of the client. And that informs me about which written resources to send to the client after our telephone conversation. (This is quite different from the usual structure of simple talk therapy. [Of course, if your judgement is that you just want to talk through a problem or two, and that you do not wish to have any assessments, or written follow-up, then I also offer a Pure Talk Therapy option, for that eventuality!).

My main service consists of…

  • An assessment of your personality style; possibly combined with a lifestyle assessment;
  • Followed by a monthly meeting, over the Telephone, which lasts for 45 minutes.
  • Followed up with emailed resources, specific to your targeted problems, and the knowledge and skills that you need to master. (These resources are sent at least weekly, and perhaps more than once each week, between monthly meetings).

The fee for this service is £180.00 GBP (which is just £45 per week for high quality support, guidance and teaching).

I also offer two deeper analyses of your problems, on a one-off session basis…

One-off meeting and report services…

Some clients prefer a one-off meeting, followed by a single analytical/resourced report, in which I outline my understanding of the nature of their problem(s), combined with various suggestions for personal change and learning experiences that they need to complete in order to solve their problem(s). I include all necessary learning resources as appendices to my report.

I offer two levels of this service:

Level 1 – Brief Report: This involves meeting over the Telephone, for a single 60 minute conversation or interview; preceded by the completion of at least one questionnaire by the client; and succeeded by the completion of at least two further questionnaires. I then dedicate two full days of my time to analyzing the client’s problem(s), and identifying solutions and supportive resources.  Then I write my report, including providing the necessary learning resources in the appendices.

The fee for this service is £350.00 GBP.

Level 2 – Extensive Report: This service also involves meeting over the Telephone, for a single 60 minute conversation or interview; preceded by the completion of at least two questionnaires by the client; and succeeded by the completion of at least three further questionnaires, as appropriate. I then dedicate five full days of my time to analyzing the client’s problem(s), and identifying solutions and supportive resources.  Then I write my report, including providing the necessary learning resources in the appendices.

The fee for this service is £700.00 GBP.

After you have completed any of the above services, you may then want further support in the form of ongoing telephone conversations.  At that point, the cost of further telephone counselling sessions will be as follows:

  • 45 minutes of follow-up telephone counselling: £180.00
