We humans are creatures of habit.  Almost everything we do, almost every moment of every day, results from a well-learned habit.  Those habits can be good or bad.

– Bad habits wreck human health!

– Bad habits wreck human relationships!

– Good habits produce better, happier, and healthier lives.

About me and my habit-change service

Hello,

Renata, Coach-counsellor, June 2021My name is Renata Taylor-Byrne, and I work as a habit-change coach and a lifestyle coach/counsellor.

I have been studying habit-change strategies for many years, and I have a range of skills and knowledges which can help you to change your life.

I began by testing habit-change strategies on myself, and I have gained a lot of experience from that process.  I have also taught habit-change strategies to lots of individuals who wanted to change their behaviours in various areas of their lives; including: diet, exercise, sleep, interpersonal skills, stress management, and some others.

I can help you in a couple of sessions to get on the track of changing any habit you are committed to changing.

What do you want to change?

Would you like to create some new habits? The ability to create good habits could help you to:

  • Lose weight
  • Improve your health
  • Become physically fit
  • Sleep better
  • Become more productive
  • Increase your sense of self-efficacy and self-confidence
  • Improve your communication with other people, at home and in work
  • Pass important examinations
  • Develop new skills
  • Learn to be more proficient and confident in public speaking?

And so on.

Habit success stories

Viv Groscop re habitsSeveral years ago, Viv Groscop – (who is a comedian and a journalist) – published an article in the Sunday Times Magazine, which illustrates the importance of intending to form better habits. Viv stated that, in order to lose weight, she wanted to make her exercise habit stronger, and so she started keeping her workout clothes and trainers next to her bed, so that they would be the first things she would see every morning, as soon as she woke up.

How well did that work?

She lost 3 stone (or 42 pounds in weight) in one year through changes in her exercise (and nutrition) habits!

What an achievement!

The reason her experiment worked was that she understood the power of habit.

In my own life I have worked at the development of good habits, and achieved good results:  I learned Chi-Kung (or Qigong) exercises, and, having made the commitment to do so, I now do them every day, which is very good for my physical and mental health.

I also studied meditation and journal writing, and I’ve managed to build both of those important processes into my daily habits.

I’ve also disciplined myself to give up some significant bad habits.

For examples: I’ve given up sugar, tobacco smoking, drinking alcohol, and stopping up too late at night.

Building those good habits, and getting rid of those bad habits, has taken time and effort; but my successes would not have been possible without understanding the process of habit formation.

Now I want to help you!

Habits can be changedYour chosen goals can be achieved by realising the truth of one simple fact:

“There’s (almost) nothing you can’t do if you get the habits right”.  Anon.

This is a slight exaggeration, to make an important point.  You can change more than you realize about your life, if you get the habit-formation process right!  Don’t aim too low!

Do you realise that we are habit-based beings, and the more we know about how we form habits the easier it is for us to change old habits that aren’t working for us, and to create new ones? We weren’t taught this in school, but invaluable research has been done by researchers in America who identified the key elements of habit formation and how to change a habit successfully.

Do you want to get rid of a bad habit, or to create a new, good habit?

The first step is awareness:  Awareness of what it is costing you to keep this bad habit; or to live without a particular good habit.

The second step is determination to change.

If you are determined to change any habit, then I can help you.

My own research and writing on habits

Diet,exercise book coverI have been fascinated by the latest research on habit formation, and I have studied and written about habits, and how people have brought really valuable changes into their lives by understanding and following the rules of habit change.

For examples:

I have written about changing habits in the areas of diet and physical exercise, in this book: How to control your anger, anxiety and depression, using nutrition and physical exercise, by Renata Taylor-Byrne and Jim Byrne, 2017.

~~~
Sleep & Health book, Front coverAnd I have written about
how to change your sleep habits in this book:
How to Stop Wrecking Your Mental, Physical and Emotional Health: Answers from the science of sleep, by Renata Taylor-Byrne, 2021.
Why and how to change
“Make no mistake about it. Bad habits are called ‘bad’ for a reason. They kill our productivity and creativity. They slow us down. They hold us back from achieving our goals. And they’re detrimental to our health”.  John Rampton
I can help you work on the habits that you want to stop, and take out of your life; and/or the ones that you want to create.
Are you willing to make the commitment to change?
“Most people don’t have that willingness to break bad habits. They have a lot of excuses and they talk like victims,” according to Carlos Santana
My key message is this:
– Scientific research shows that there is a simple formula which underlies all habits.
– Once you know this, you can start to change your life and bring in welcome improvements that you want to make.
– Creating new habits is the start of creating a new life for yourself.
Of course, this is not going to be effortless.
According to Amy Morin: “Sticking to good habits can be hard work, and mistakes are part of the process. Don’t declare failure simply because you messed up or because you’re having trouble reaching your goals. Instead, use your mistakes as opportunities to grow stronger and become better.”
How I can help
As a habit-change coach, I will support you as you…
